Access to nutritious food is a basic human right and a key part of achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development (SDG) Goal 2 — Zero Hunger. Across Chicago and its surrounding suburbs, there are several trusted organizations working every day to ensure that no one in our community goes hungry.
Food Assistance in Cook County
If you or someone you know needs food support in Cook County, visit the Greater Chicago Food Depository website. Their Find Food page helps residents locate free groceries, hot meals, and community pantries nearby. You can search by ZIP code or neighborhood to find the location most convenient for you.Â
Food Assistance in Surrounding CountiesÂ
For residents living outside Cook County — including Boone, DeKalb, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, Ogle, Stephenson, Will, and Winnebago counties — the Northern Illinois Food Bank provides a similar resource. Their Get Groceries page allows you to find local food pantries, mobile markets, and meal programs throughout Northern Illinois.Â

Community Partners Offering Support
In addition to food banks, many local restaurants, mutual aid groups, and community delivery services are stepping up to help individuals and families affected by reduced benefits. Residents are encouraged to check neighborhood social media groups, community centers, and local churches for meal distribution schedules and pop-up food drives.
Together for a Hunger-Free Chicago
Hunger is a community challenge that requires a collective response. By connecting residents with local food resources and advocating for equitable access to nutritious meals, Chicagoland can continue to make progress toward SDG 2: Zero Hunger and SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being.
