FROM GLOBAL TO LOCAL
UNA-Chicago is the Greater Chicago Chapter of the United Nations Association of the USA (UNA-USA), a national organization based in Washington, D.C. For over 80 years, UNA-USA has advanced the mission of the United Nations through grassroots advocacy, youth engagement, public education, and nationwide programming. With more than 20,000 members—60% of whom are under the age of 26—and over 200 chapters across the country, UNA-USA is a powerful movement committed to diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion.
At UNA-Chicago, we are passionate about championing the work of the UN and highlighting its essential role in advancing global peace, justice, and human dignity, as outlined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Our chapter collaborates with foreign policy leaders, elected officials, educational institutions, nonprofit organizations, and civic groups throughout the Greater Chicago Area. Together, we aim to build informed public opinion, deepen understanding of global issues, and generate new ideas to strengthen support for the United Nations and its specialized agencies.
Through task forces, community initiatives, and strategic partnerships, UNA-Chicago works to increase public awareness and local participation in global affairs. We are guided by the UNA-USA vision: “A world in which humanity is spared the scourge of war, human rights are honored, the natural environment is protected, and the United States is a constructive member of the United Nations for the well-being of all humankind.”
Locally, our vision is to foster greater engagement between Chicago-area residents and organizations in shaping a strong and effective partnership between the United States and the United Nations.
