Goal 5 aims to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. While progress has been made, systemic inequality persists—from wage gaps and unpaid care work to gender-based violence and underrepresentation in leadership. 

Globally, women earn 23% less than men, do three times more unpaid work, and face rising challenges exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. At the current pace, true gender equality could take centuries. 

Achieving this goal requires bold political action, investment, and inclusive reforms. Advancing gender equality improves health, education, and economic growth, and builds a more just, sustainable world for everyone.
