FROM GLOBAL TO LOCAL
Goal 16 aims to promote peaceful and inclusive societies, ensure access to justice for all, and build effective, accountable institutions. Everyone deserves to live free from fear and violence, regardless of their identity or background.
Yet rising global conflicts and insecurity threaten progress. Armed violence, exploitation, and corruption undermine development and human rights. Lasting peace requires collaboration across governments, civil society, and communities to strengthen the rule of law, reduce violence, and ensure justice and inclusion for all.
Without action, cycles of violence, injustice, and exclusion will persist. But by promoting equality, holding leaders accountable, and protecting the rights of all people, we can help build safer, more just societies—at home and around the world.
"Hello!
My name is Arjun Sawhney, and I am a Global Goals Ambassador for the United Nations’ 16th Sustainable Development Goal—Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions. I am finishing up my sophomore year at the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools. I am passionate about political engagement and have co-founded my school’s Youth Engagement in Politics club. I am also an active competitor in Model UN conferences.
My role as an ambassador focuses on promoting peaceful and inclusive communities, strengthening institutions, and increasing civic participation. I aim to drive awareness and engagement in several ways, including by hosting events, leveraging networks, and collaborating with political leaders.
Together, we can build a more just and representative society."
