FROM GLOBAL TO LOCAL
Goal 15 focuses on protecting, restoring, and sustainably managing ecosystems, forests, and biodiversity. Healthy land supports human life, drives over half of global GDP, and sustains cultural, spiritual, and economic well-being.
Yet, our planet faces a triple crisis—climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss. Forests are rapidly disappearing due to agriculture, degrading over 100 million hectares of land annually and threatening 1 million species with extinction.
Safeguarding ecosystems also protects public health, as unsustainable land use and wildlife exploitation contribute to emerging zoonotic diseases like COVID-19.
To protect life on land, we must shift our relationship with nature—support conservation, reduce waste, consume responsibly, and involve local communities in ecosystem protection.
