FROM GLOBAL TO LOCAL
Goal 14 is about conserving and sustainably using the ocean, seas, and marine resources. Oceans cover 75% of Earth’s surface, support nearly a million species, and regulate the global climate—yet they face unprecedented threats.
Marine pollution, especially from plastics, is surging, ocean acidification is rising, and heatwaves are killing coral reefs and disrupting ecosystems. Overfishing, waste, and unsustainable tourism also endanger ocean health and livelihoods, especially in coastal communities.
Safeguarding the ocean requires urgent global cooperation, increased investment in ocean science, and personal action, like reducing plastic use and making sustainable seafood choices. A healthy ocean is essential for a healthy planet.
