FROM GLOBAL TO LOCAL
Goal 1 seeks to end extreme poverty everywhere by 2030. While poverty rates had been declining for decades, the COVID-19 pandemic reversed that progress, pushing nearly 90 million more people into extreme poverty.
Today, over 670 million people still live on less than $2.15 a day. Without urgent action, an estimated 575 million could remain in poverty by 2030, especially in sub-Saharan Africa.
Achieving this goal requires strong social protection systems, inclusive economic growth, and sustained investment in education, healthcare, and job creation to ensure no one is left behind.
