Friends of the World Food Program volunteer Committee Leader opportunity 2009

My name is Brian Ward, and I am an Outreach Associate at the Friends of the World Food Program (Friends of WFP). We are a US-based nonprofit organization founded by the United Nation’s World Food Program (WFP) to support their efforts to end global hunger, which we do through fundraising, education and advocacy.

In January 2008, Friends of the World Food Program (Friends of WFP) launched a grassroots initiative to mobilize the US public in support of the United Nations World Food Program to raise awareness about global hunger. The response was overwhelming, and by the close of 2008, we had 25 WFP Committees active around the country. Each WFP Committee is organized by Committee Leaders, local citizens interested in getting involved around the issue of global hunger.

Committee Leaders act as the liaisons between the State Coordinator and general volunteers. Committee Leaders invest 3-5 hours on a weekly basis in order to organize their Committee and community around the issue of global hunger, and to support the World Food Program.

Committee Leaders will go through a two-month training and orientation. This will be conducted via conference calls and online tools. Our goal is to recruit 3-8 Committee Leaders for new WFP Committees in Chicago.

To help you learn more about the volunteer position, I have organized open conference calls. These calls will cover all the basics to help you determine if this opportunity is a good fit for you!
