Awards Ceremony
JUDGING/SELECTION & AWARDS
Feature, Documentary, Short, and Student Films are selected for Festival presentation by the Festival Planning Committee’s Select Jurist Team. If a film is selected for screening, the Festival office will contact the entrant by phone or email.
For publication purposes, entries selected will be required to supply 3 (three) high resolution stills from the film and at least 1 (one) photograph of the film's director. The Festival also requests publicity materials and a video trailer (if available). Publicity and press materials will not be returned.
In keeping with the Festival's concentration of highlighting works related to the Millennium Development Goals, special consideration will be given to those projects that have addressed one or more of these goals in a way that Wakes-Up the movement of educating the public on the issues and provides us with a vehicle to think, act, and ensue.
- Select narrative features, documentary features, short films music videos will participate in the Festival’s award competitions. The winners of which are chosen by special juries.
- FEATURE FILM and SHORT FILM AWARD: Awards are given for Best Animated or Experimental Short/Feature, Best Documentary Short/Feature, Best Narrative Short/Feature and Best Student Short.
- AUDIENCE AWARD: Most features and shorts are eligible for this award. Awardees are chosen based on ballots submitted by Festival audiences and are presented in the following categories: Narrative Feature, Documentary Feature, International Feature, International Short, Short Film, and Music Video.
- BEST OF THE FEST: A trophy will be awarded to the winner of this award. Best of the Fest can be in any category, but only one will be selected for the final presentation.
- MUSIC VIDEO AWARD: for Cinematography and Editing.
- Works will be judged on the basis of: creativity, originality, artistic quality, and technical quality.(SEE RUBRIC)
- All awards with the exception of the Audience Awards, will be presented to the filmmaker of the winning films during the Film Festival at the Award Ceremony and Benefit Reception on Friday, October 28, 2011 at Columbia College Film Row Cinema. Awards are based on overall merit of the entries.
Winning entries may be used for promotional segments and/or Award Ceremony and Benefit Reception on Friday, October 28, 2011, as well as via website promotions and trailer for the 2012 event.
