About Us
Dear filmmaker, film enthusiast, and global activist,
The United Nations Association-USA Greater Chicago Chapter is presenting their First GLOBAL WAKE-UP Festival of Film, Literature, and Creative Arts. The Festival is a two-day event on Friday, October 28, and Saturday, October 29, 2011.
Day one will start with film screenings, select workshops, a Star-Studded Award Ceremony, and Benefit Reception. On day two, a series of international and local film screenings, creative art showcases, workshops, and panel discussions will close the event.
The 2011 GLOBAL WAKE-UP Film Festival will be held in the heart of Chicago’s film district, Film Row Cinema at Columbia College. We decided to host our festival at Columbia College for many reasons, including it’s recognition as an institute of higher learning, a premier institute for film, and quite simply, it’s in the City of Chicago - which is our kind of town! Beautiful, Diverse, Mobile and the New Hollywood which increasingly hosts independent films today that expand into mainstream premiers tomorrow.
The GLOBAL WAKE-UP Film Festival seeks to honor those who are working to improve the human condition in developing countries, as well as to enhance public awareness of the United Nation’s eight anti-poverty Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
The Millennium Development Goals were adopted by the United Nations Summit on the Millennium Development Goals in 2000, and has a target date of 2015 for completion. For this reason we have chosen to accept films that were completed during this time span (2000-2015).
Additionally, the festival makes the local and global connection by showcasing works of artists, writers, filmmakers, and political leaders who seek justice and the end of disparity on the national and/or local fronts.
Although admissions to the film screenings are entirely free, the Award Ceremony & Benefit Reception is a ticketed event at $25.00 per person, and VIP seating is available for a minimum donation of $60.00.
We are very excited to begin this yearly event and hope you'll come out and enjoy as we celebrate and embrace the Millennium Development Goals.
Sincerely,
Roxxy Cooley
Director, International Film - UNA-USA Greater Chicago Chapter
