World Health Services (WHS) - Within weeks of the January 2010 earthquake, UNA Chicago organized a healthcare team, raised $12,000 and was on the ground in Haiti to assist. Last month, the team combined efforts with Du Sable Heritage Association and returned to Haiti where additional setbacks included a hurricane, election rioting, and a cholera epidemic. Needs assessments were conducted and alliances forged. UTF was able to offer a system to match providers with related areas of need in Haiti. A webpage was created to make projects from various Chicago organizations easier to track and reduce duplication of efforts among these NGO’s. New fundraising efforts are underway.
